However, tragedy struck when their leader, Yahiko, was killed by Hanzo of the Mountain, causing his friend Nagato to assume control under the moniker Pain. Under this new leadership, the organization shifted from peacekeepers to predators, believing that only absolute power could prevent future wars. The group's structure relied on pairs of S-rank missing-nin working together to track and subdue the tailed beasts. Each member possessed unique abilities that made them nearly unstoppable individually, but their true strength lay in their coordination and the extraction techniques they developed. While publicly serving Pain's vision, the organization was secretly manipulated by Obito Uchiha, who used the captured chakra of the beasts to fuel his own catastrophic plan known as the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Their reign of terror culminated in a series of devastating conflicts with Konoha and other villages, leading to their eventual downfall. The disbandment occurred after Pain's defeat by Naruto Uzumaki and Konan's subsequent death at the hands of Tobi, leaving behind a legacy that fundamentally altered the geopolitical landscape of the shinobi world.
