For centuries, Amegakure was known as a land of endless conflict. Its geographical location made it a prime target for invasion by neighboring powers, leading to a history defined by constant warfare rather than prosperity. This environment bred a generation of shinobi who were hardened by loss, including the young Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan; however, only Nagato and Konan survived the devastation caused by Hanzo of the Salamander. The village's most significant transformation occurred when Pain took control, establishing it as the secret headquarters for the Akatsuki organization. Under his rule, Amegakure became a fortress where the organization plotted to capture all Tailed Beasts to force global peace through fear. Following Nagato's death, Konan attempted to reclaim leadership but was killed almost immediately by Obito Uchiha (posing as Tobi) during their clash over Yahiko's body; the real Madara Uchiha was not present at this time. Consequently, she never established a long-term rule or guided the village into the Boruto era. The village itself was often depicted as a labyrinth of steel and rain, reflecting the cold, unyielding nature of its leader's philosophy. Despite subsequent regime changes, Amegakure remained an active entity throughout the Boruto era.
